Matt Lively
Matt Lively is a multi disciplined artist known widely in the region for his paintings, sculptures, and mural work. I spent the morning with Matt in the large red barn that houses his studio discussing inspiration, current projects, and how sometimes a consolation prize is more rewarding than the first place prize.
The barn which is over one hundred years old is in many ways as it was with he took it over. You can find old hay in the corners and a faded 1995 calendar hanging. Matt explained that he left much of what he found after taking it over, not out of neglect, but as a way of keeping the history of the space as a traditional functional barn alive. As you’ll see in the photographs, the bottom level is filled with tools and implements that aid largely in his sculpture work. The loft space upstairs offers a quiet, large open area where huge easels support his paintings in progress.
